Although we’ve been open for guests again since May, we haven’t hosted a guest event here at the Urban Oasis in over two years. I was just thinking about some of the truly epic parties we’ve had at the Uban Oasis. My 50th birthday party, back in 2003, might go down in history as the best party I’ve ever been to. And I have plenty of friends and family who would claim the same!
My birthday typically gets shortchanged every year. Being the 29th of November, it falls the weekend after Thanksgiving when people are either traveling home after the holidays or have had enough socializing to last them a while. That is usually the space I’m in as well, but I figured that my fiftieth birthday deserved a little bit of hoopla.
My friends, knowing I love Tongo Hiti and tropical cocktails, suggested that we throw a birthday Luau, despite it being rather chilly that time of year. Back in the day, ,My friends, knowing I love Tongo Hiti and tropical cocktails, suggested that we throw a birthday Luau. a friend of ourshad a band, Tongo Hiti that would play at Trader Vics in Downtown, Atlanta and we’d go down there to dance.
So we called Big Mike Geier and hired Tongo Hiti, made what ended up to be nine and a half gallons of Mai Tais, and made some pu pu platters (Hawaiian hors d’oeuvres trays), and had ourselves a great time.
My daughter, niece, daughter-in-law, and some of their friends provided some unexpected fun. They dressed up in bathing suit tops and sarongs that we happened to have around the house and transformed into Hawaiian dancers!
I’m not sure we’re quite ready to party again. But, it is great to think back on fun memories.
